Congratulations! You’ve made it to the end of a long, beautiful inspiring festival. Now, its time to celebrate! Come join the artists and participants of the Fertile Ground Festival for Sprout, a closing celebration and instant commissioning playwrighting event tonight at the Armory.
Here’s the details:
What: Sprout, a Fertile Ground Closing Celebration
When: Tonight, February 1st, 2010
Time: 7:30 pm
Where: Main Stage, Gerding Theater at the Armory (128 NW 11th)
Cost: Suggested donation of $15, free to Pass Holders (donation goes towards our playwrights’ commissions)
Come party with us and the festival artists- and you could win the chance to commission your own world premiere play from one of our festival participants.
Here’s how it will work: Your entry donation purchases you a raffle ticket. At 7:30, we’ll gather in the main stage where we will select one playwright and two performers who will be assigned a director. A raffle ticket will be pulled, and the winning audience member will be asked on stage to “commission” that team for a short play to be performed later that evening. Your commission is up to you- an idea, a title, etc. The playwrights will split the raffle proceeds.
We’ll repeat this three times until we have three commissioned teams.
Then the audience will be kicked to the lobby, where we’ll celebrate with complimentary food and a cash bar. While we’re celebrating, a live feed will be set up that will allow you to suggest lines for the commissioned plays through your smart phone or at the Armory concierge desk.
When our playwrights and actors are done doing their work, we’ll invite everyone back into the theater for some festival closing remarks and the finished “commissions.”
Its a last chance to sample the act of creation in the moment, and a wonderful opportunity to let the festival artists know what you enjoyed about this year’s events.
Come join us! We’d love to see you!
